Assembly on Drugs

To face what is being called a national crisis the school was called into an assembly on Monday, April 23. Courtney Lovell spoke on behalf of the organisation, Speakers for Change on her experiences. Covering her all time lows to her lack of support to her long recovery with plenty of metaphors. “It is common with addiction were you start to lose your relationships but for me towards the end of my addiction I started to steal from my family…and eventually my family caught on that I was stealing from them and I couldn’t steal from them anymore and I started stealing from other people resulting in 27 felonies in four counties.” Lovell was lucky enough to get her record sealed upon completing drug core allowing her “to have some pretty cool jobs,” like working on a federal contract with the Department of Defense; training soldiers in substance abuse prevention.
