Meet the Staff

This is the fifth of a series introducing NPHS’ 18 new staff members.

Sky Seery

As we get closer to the end of the school year here are some more new teachers that joined the school. Sky Seery has two children, Johnny and Paige.

Seery was a librarian for over 20 years but this is her first year being a counselor.

“I really love this career change even though I’m still learning I feel like it was the right move,” Seery said.

She has been in North Platte her entire life it’s where she grew up and where she raised her children.

North Platte High School has always held a very special place in her heart.

When she was in school her schedule was different from her friends at NPHS so whenever she didn’t have school she would go to school with them.

A few of her favorite hobbies are being outdoors either by the pool, biking, or rollerblading.

She loves trying vintage recipes that she finds in old cookbooks, and she is also learning to play the guitar.

Sydney Schelkopf is engaged and planning a wedding for this summer.

Her fiance, Austin lives and farms in a small town three hours away.

Along with being engaged she has a puppy chocolate Lab named Hank.

She is originally from Geneva, but she moved her just last July in order to start teaching.

“Ending up here in North Platte just kind of happened by chance,” Schelkopf said.

She interviewed and she liked the idea of going somewhere where she didn’t know anyone and no one knew her or her family.

This is her first year being a teacher and with that she is currently teaching Algebra 1- Recovery, Algebra 2 and Geometry.

As a student teacher she did teach Pre-Calculus but this year is her first go around with Geometry.

Her favorite school experience so far has been getting to know the students and other teachers in the building.

She really values creating meaningful relationships and has developed a few this school year (that I am sure I will have forever,) Schelkopf said.

She also has enjoyed seeing the community come together to support the school.

Scott Rogers came to North Platte to be closer to his brother and also because he sold his house to his daughter and her husband to give them a hand up in Colorado.

Scott Rogers

“I am married to an amazing lady Debbie,” Rogers said.

Rogers and his wife have been married for 39 years and they have a son and daughter together.

For 31 years Rogers has been teaching. He started teaching for Sacred Heart Middle School in 1993.

Rogers has taught computer science, earth science, physics, and math which is what he is teaching right now.

“I did not decide I wanted to teach math, I kind of fell into it and here we are 31 years later,” Rogers said.

He has taught at Discovery Canyon Campus, Spring Creek Youth Detention Center, Ellicott High School, Edison School District, Peyton High School and Sacred Heart Middle School.

Along with that he has also taught at various summer school activities for both students and teachers.

His favorite school experience was one of the football teams he was coaching went to state finals and they played hard but lost.

That same the Matchwits team he coached went to the state tournament and went to the final round and lost to a school twice their size.

Some of his favorite hobbies outside of teaching are camping and fishing.
