The Bulldogs come into the stadium ready for kick-off.

“Every kid grows up and they want to either go to Memorial Stadium or play in it, and we’ve gotten the chance to do both,” said senior Caden Comer. On September 30, the North Platte High School football team got to play against Lincoln Southwest High School at Memorial Stadium. The final score of the game was 34-0, in favor of Lincoln Southwest. “It was pretty fun, everyone was pretty fired up, but the outcome wasn’t what we wanted,” said Comer.

With interceptions by junior Aidan Arensdorf and senior Benny Brockmoller, the defense was doing well, but that wasn’t enough to get a win for the Bulldogs. “We need to get to work and do better football,” said head coach Bernie Madison.

During the second quarter, senior Braiden Ruffin, the quarterback, got injured. “I was crushed, I really wanted to finish this game with my teammates. I didn’t want to leave them hanging out there by themselves, I wanted to be out there with them, win or lose,” said Ruffin. He does not know how many games he will be out for due to his injury.

Many players felt the game wasn’t any different from a regular game, even though they were in a different venue. Senior Bryson Krull said, “For me, it felt the same, it’s just football, nothing was different.” Krull also said they played their hardest, just like any other game. Ruffin said, “It just felt like we were playing another football game in a super cool place to play football. It’s a great experience to have, playing in Memorial Stadium.”

“The kids were loving it when they came in, big ol’ smiles.” The team had fun Madison said. “The atmosphere was a once in a lifetime experience.”
