Johnston reaches basketball milestone

North Platte High School senior and varsity point guard for boy’s basketball recently scored his 1,000th point.

During the Saturday game on December 17, Johnston finally surpassed this milestone. This was a goal for Johnston since his freshman year.

“Accomplishing that was huge for me,” Johnston said. As a kid, Johnston grew up going to the gym and shooting hoops with his father. “I’ve kinda watched him growing up,” Johnston said, “He’s a big part of my basketball career.”

“I’m actually very happy and proud of him,” NPHS boy’s basketball coach Matt Kaminski said. “He’s the third person in the history of North Platte basketball that’s done that.”

On top of this achievement, River Johnston is the second player in program’s history to score nine three-pointers in a single game.
