State Cheer
The North Platte High School Cheer Team competed at state on Feb. 22 in Grand Island, Neb. They competed in two events, game day and non-tumbling. The NPHS cheer team placed seventh out of 16 in non-tumbling and 13th out of 16 in game-day.
Senior cheer captain Mia Dugan thinks that the team competed very well, but she does feel being in class A is a disadvantage. “I believe that we could have done better if we were in class B like last year, but I still think we did well,” said Dugan. “A lot of the class A Omaha schools have a separate team just for competing.”
Overall, Dugan feels that the cheer team competed very well at State. “I think that the girls did their best and that’s all that matters,” Dugan said. “I really hope that next year they carry on everything and improve.”
State Dance
The North Platte High School Pacer dance team competed at state on Feb. 22 in Grand Island, Neb. The pacer dance team competed in two events, jazz and pom. The pacers placed 14th out of 14 teams in jazz and 15th out of 16 teams in pom.
“It was really stressful. We practiced every day for a month, even on weekends,” said sophomore Olivia Eckel. She feels that the team competed very well at State. “Our point score went up 10 points in pom from last year so we improved a lot,” Eckel said.
Eckel feels that being in class A gives them a disadvantage, but they were just there to give it there all. “The one thing I told all the girls was it doesn’t matter what we placed as long as we try our hardest,” she said. And Eckel said that’s exactly what they did. “I am very happy with what we put out there,” Eckel said.
