A look on how NPHS uses the social media platform Tik Tok.

[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”5″]T[/su_dropcap]ik Tok, the app that took the world by storm in 2017, and is still ever-growing a bigger audience day by day. North Platte High school students have this app on their phones according to a survey sent out to students and 38 students answered the survey only 55.3%.
This app is filled with seemingly endless amounts of random content, with everyone trying to compete to get on the coveted “For You Page”.
For NPHS students, the amount of time that people spend ranges from about 5 minutes to 8 hours on the app. Tik Tok has a digital wellbeing mode on it to limit how much time you spend on the app.
Some students love Tik Tok while others are not as big of a fan. “It’s pointless distracting and uncreative,” said sophomore Faythe Lindsey. However, senior Jes Crankshaw would say otherwise, “[It’s the] next version of Vine.”

At NPHS, only about a third of students make Tik Toks. Most of the people who make these videos want to get famous. A goal for every creator on Tik Tok, to reach as much of an audience as possible to become famous.
Here’s how Tik Tok works. You make a video with either a popular sound or a sound that you make. Then you do whatever your idea is to the sound whether it be dancing or a skit or whatever you want to make. Then you edit the video how you want it to look. Give it a description and a couple of hashtags and post it. Then hopefully your video will make it on the For You Page. The For You Page is a page where people Tik Toks from all around the world that people have made to entertain and for others who use the app to look at. If people like your video and enough people see it, you have your shot at becoming Tik Tok famous.
Tik Tok has a range of different content. The content ranges from animals to people dancing and skits.
Tik Tok has a lot of content, some of it’s different and some are very similar, “It’s not always original, but I appreciate some of the really funny ones,” said junior Annie von Kampen. Other people who have Tik Tok On the other hand, to others like senior Josiah Vega, it’s not that bad of a problem, “There’s a variation of people who put their own little twist and makes it their own.”
The content that is made on Tik Tok is all over the place. It ranges from people dancing to popular songs to flips and just about anything else you can think of. A big favorite of some creators is the song “Lottery” by K Camp, otherwise known as the “Renegade” song. It took off because some creators started dancing to it and it got very popular.
