Trial date set in murder case

After refusing to enter a plea, a former North Platte High School student murder case will face trial.

On the evening of September 14, 22-year-old Ethan Pohlemeier was shot “multiple times” at Centennial Park in North Platte. A month later, police arrested Brayden Turner and Jesus Martinez, both 16, in connection with the crime. The teens are facing charges of first-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, and felony firearm charges, which carries a maximum of 50 years in prison.

Turner appeared in Lincoln County District Court today before Judge James Doyle from Dawson County. Represented by Amanda Speichert, Turner chose to stand mute. Judge Doyle entered a not guilty plea on Turner’s behalf. Turner’s trial date is set for March 5, 2019.

Speichert also requested to reduce Turner’s current bond of 1.5 million dollars because he’s a minor. Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling argued that because of the severity of the crime, the bond should remain the same. Judge Doyle ruled that bond will not be reduced.

The other teen facing charges, Jesus Martinez, will appear in district court on December 17.
