Battle of the Beats
Spotify: Spotify is one of the biggest music streaming services with its wide selection of songs you can add to a playlist and stream from any device. On mobile versions of this app, you are only allowed to listen to your music on shuffle. However, on PC and Mac versions, you can listen to your music in any order you like. On all devices, you are forced to suffer through advertisements unless you purchase a subscription for Spotify Premium. With this feature, you don’t have to listen to ads nor do you have to listen to your music on shuffle. With this feature, you can skip more than six songs at a time. On all devices, you can listen to custom radio stations, much like Pandora. Rate: 7 out of 10
Pandora: Pandora’s service lets you listen to radio stations you can customize yourself. If you don’t like a song that comes up in the station, you can dislike it and never listen to the song again. It will adjust the radio station to suit your music tastes better. The dreadful ads are back with this service. However, Pandora Plus removes all of those ads for you and it increases your amount of song skips. This one doesn’t allow you to upload your music, the service that has that perfected is SoundCloud. SoundCloud: SoundCloud is much different from its competitors. It’s almost entirely based around uploading your own music or audio only entertainment. You can choose to distribute your content for free, or you can put a price on it. The only problem is you can only upload three hours of content. Upgrading to SoundCloud Pro allows you to upload longer content. It also helps you get more popularity on the app. This service is the only one that gives you most of its paid features for free.

Apple Music: Apple Music is definitely not as great as its competitors. It offers you all of the features of Spotify and Pandora but you have to pay for everything it offers. College students can get discounts for this service, and everyone can try it for three months for free. The good thing about it’s price is that you are definitely getting what you pay for. You have no ads and great audio quality with the ability to download the music to your phone to listen offline. However, this service will only work if you have some sort of Apple device like an iPhone or iPod. Rate: 6 out of 10
Amazon Music: Amazon Music is a lot like Apple music in the way is distributes music. In order to use their service, you have to buy a subscription to Amazon Music or you can use your Amazon Prime subscription if you already have one. If you don’t have Amazon Prime then you can try the service for 30 days before you decide to buy it. Like Apple Music, this is a subscription based service so you will never have to deal with the annoyance of ads, and if you already have Amazon Prime you don’t even need to pay separately. What makes this app great is it works on any device, unlike Apple Music, which only works on Apple devices.
