A Year in Reed-view
Well, that was definitely something. I mean, how else would someone describe such an interesting year? Some of the greatest stars have fallen and the worst have risen. Memes were ruined due to most people forcing the punchline too far into the ground.
Rather than talk about a celebrity death, we’ll start off with the death of a viral trend. ‘Twas the night of the Oscars, a man named Leonardo Dicaprio killed the trend of not winning and Oscar by winning the Oscar. This is when 2016 started going downhill.
By far, the most annoying joke of this year has got to be “Damn, Daniel.” No one was safe; everywhere you went you’d hear those dreaded words. Even worse, if you had white Vans you never heard the end of it.
Assassinated zoo gorilla Harambe was one of the most overused memes of the year. You couldn’t go on any social media outlet without seeing something about this gorilla. Your parents might think you’re upset about the dead gorilla, but the real trend was the hashtag that blew up on social media. Whatever you do, don’t let your parents look it up.
Pokémon Go was an interesting idea and a decent game for about a month or so. It was a way of trying to get you outside. However, the creators overestimated humanity and thought maybe people would use common sense. According to Pokémon GO Death Tracker, since the game’s release there have been 12 recorded deaths and 53 injuries due to this game.
How does one make bottle flipping even sound remotely interesting? It’s not interesting in the slightest. I can’t think of any way it could be cool.
Remember that time we were all supposed to sit still at lunch and no one did? That’s the Mannequin Challenge. You’re welcome because now “Black Beatles” is stuck in your head, isn’t it?
Finally, the most noteworthy event of 2016 had to have been the presidential election. This was such an inspiring event. Donald Trump proved that if you set your mind to it and pay enough people, you can accomplish anything in life. Congratulations to Hillary Clinton for losing her shot at the presidency
for the second time in eight years.
2016 just proves that we are devolving in terms of intelligence as a species. At some point in history humans reached the peak of our achievements, but then we walked right off of it. I have extremely low expectations for 2017. My rating for last year is 3 years out of 2016.
