The big Spectrum
Seniors in
the music department are preparing to don their choir robes, and tune their instruments for the last time. The concert is called Spectrum and it will be an emotional night filled with performances from band, choir, and orchestra.
Senior Tiffany Hall looked back on her time in choir and band, and how far she’s come since freshman year. “I used to be so terrified of choir class that I would sit in the very back and read my book whenever I wasn’t supposed to be singing,” Hall said. “Now this year I’m right up in the thick of things and it’s so much more enjoyable,” she said. Choir has really helped with her confidence level, she said she is now more outgoing and enjoys singing solos.
“It’s really been a learning experience for me on how to perform and connect to different pieces of music,” Hall said. She is excited to leave for college and pursue music, but will miss making memories with her friends every day in class. Her advice to underclassmen is to not worry about what people think, and just enjoy the music.
For senior Simon Lindley, playing the cello is something he’s done since fifth grade. “I’m ready to graduate, it is sad, but I’m also excited to move on,” Lindley said. The highlight of his musical career was joining a few select high school students in playing for the Sandhills Symphony. Lindley’s advice to the underclassmen is, “Keep practicing, don’t give up. It takes a lot of hard work, but eventually it will pay off.”
The four years in band are coming to an end for senior Amelia Davis. “Being in band has just given me a sense of belonging, we’re like a big family,” she said. Davis has also learned to be a leader through her experience, she lead the flute section in marching band. “Being good at something, whether it’s a sport or music, really helps your confidence,” Davis said. The fact that Spectrum is her last concert is sinking in as her and the other seniors gather pictures for the slideshow that will be shown during the concert. Seniors will be handing out flowers to their loved ones in the audience, as a way of thanking them for the support through the years.
Come and support the music department on Tuesday, May 10th, at 7pm. The concert will be held in in the Performing Arts Center.
