Mrs. Brett Julius is one of North Platte High’s trusted guidance counselors, but she is so much more! She is also the swim coach. In her coaching history, she served as an assistant coach at two different high schools and coached for a city league for three years. Now, this well-seasoned leader will be the head coach of the North Platte Swim Team.
Mrs. Julius says, “My goal for this year is for the team to see improvement in their individual events. The hardest thing about making a team goal for the year is that we have three different levels of swimmers. We have experienced swimmers who have been with the team for a long time, and other swimmers who are developing and evolving. The team as a whole are learning to refine their swimming technique. We all expect to see major improvement across the board.”
She said one thing that she has been really blessed to have is her two fellow coaches: Dive Coach Tamara Vigil and Assistant Coach Ethan Mercer. They have helped her with this challenge of having different levels of swimmers and all three coaches are focused on providing high-quality attention to all swimmers. Mrs. Julius says that the hardest thing about being a high school coach is “challenging the team while also keeping good morale.” Mrs. Julius says what she loves the most about swimming is that “you are always challenging yourself and learning to focus on how you can get better. This is an individual, but team sport.” Mrs. Julius likes the fact that you have to work together to win a meet. The secret is out!! Mrs. Brett Julius is the new swim coach.
