Love is in the air

My review of Valentines Day candy

Nathenial Crow, Arts & Entertainment Editor

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you won’t have to think about what gift to give.  I’m like Cupid, here to help make sure your special person loves you! I’ve analyzed the Valentine’s Day aisle choices so you can focus your attention on your sweetie.

Brach’s Heart 2 Heart Conversation Hearts

$2.50

Sophia Walsh

These are the classic Valentine’s Day candies but have been updated since you last got the minibox in elementary school.  The Smartie’s-like hearts now have romantic messages on the front and the back.  They taste better than they used to, but they still remind me of candy medicine.

Elmer Assorted Chocolates Heart Box

$3

Sophia Walsh

This box screams “I love you!” It’s the traditional Valentine’s Day gift with 15 mini chocolates inside. My favorite was the orange cream chocolate truffle; it was delicious, but even the ones I didn’t prefer still tasted pleasant.

Milk Chocolate M&M’s

$2.98

Sophia Walsh

Seriously?! Do you really need me to explain what plain chocolate M&M’s taste like? These tastes like they always taste– a shell with chocolate inside.  However, this “Cupid’s Mix” looks cute with red, pink, fuchsia, and white candy coating.  Some of the “M’s” have a heart around them.

Merci Finest Assortment of European Chocolates

$5.98

Sophia Walsh

Merci is French for thank you, and your significant other will thank you for giving them this treat. When you open the box, you’ll see gold-wrapped European chocolates that remind you of a Kit Kat bar.  However, there are 20 two-bite-sized pieces ranging from marzipan to dark mousse.  This candy is twice as much as some other choices on this list, but it’s worth it because they’re so impressive.

Frankford Minion marshmallow pop

$1

Sophia Walsh

Do you ever wonder what happens to marshmallow Peeps after Easter? Apparently, they’re refurbished into minions for Valentine’s Day. This is a stale Peep on a stick.  This is a perfect gag gift. You might be out of your mind if you buy this for your Valentine.

Palmer Big Buddy Pop double crisp chocolate pop

$1

Are you a sucker for chocolate? This “Top Dawg” chocolate dog on a stick is adorable.  This is what a Crunch bar wishes it could be. It’s shaped like a white and milk chocolate bulldog with a lolling tongue hanging out and has a red heart that says “Top Dawg.” For only a dollar, you get a lot of chocolate for the price.

Busy Kids Lolli-hearts Bouquet

$1

These lollipops look like stained glass. The “bouquet” includes clear red, yellow, blue, pink, and green heart-shaped suckers for only a dollar. They’re pretty and much tastier than flowers. They’re the perfect size to get you through one class period at school.

Galerie Milk Chocolate long stem rose

$1

Are you a fan of the rose ceremony in The Bachelor? If so, this treat is for you! The hollow chocolate rosebud is wrapped in red foil and glued to an artificial rose stem. Like the reality show, I was expecting more.  The hollow rose will leave you disappointed.
