All- State Choir

Excitement has been filling the air because so many North Platte High School sports teams are competing at the state level. For the choir department, the energy and expectations are nothing less. “Usually there is an average of five students from our school that are chosen to make it to All-State Choir, this year we have eight to nine going along with six alternates,” said choir teacher Leah Purdy. She said All-State music is like other all state sports, the only difference is choir is an activity. “This year, it’s great we have so many going because only the best 440 singers in all of Nebraska attend this,” said Purdy.
Competing at All-State is a significant honor to the students. This will be senior Sydney McGahan’s second year of qualifying. “I’m excited to be able to enjoy the choir as a better musician than I was two years ago. I just think it’s a huge honor,” she said. “I practiced my music 24/7, and I’m so happy that it payed off.”
