Coaches. They’re out on the track, pool deck, field, and occasionally in the classroom. Whether you realize it or not, coaches are with you every step of the the way, pushing you to reach your highest potential. These remarkable people are incredibly influential in making athletes, the athletic department, and North Platte High School exceptional. But as much as coaches invest in their community, they are motivated by the some of the most important people in their lives.

According to The National Federation of State High School Associations, coaches who form strong bonds with their athletes benefit by gaining the satisfaction of being a positive influence in their lives. Coaches keep in touch with their former athletes even after their competition days, proving that their influence goes beyond scoring the winning points or achieving a medal at State.

Kyle Milton– “Coaching allows me to see growth in students that I don’t always get to see in the classroom. Watching them improve on a daily basis inspires me to continue to improve as a coach, as a teacher, and as a person.”

Sarah Kaminski– “It’s neat to see all the different things athletes bring and it impacts me because it opens my eyes. They treat people in different ways, they show their appreciation different ways and it’s taught me more of what I could do to be a better person.”

Casey Werkmeister– “At some point your own athletic career stops, so you start wanting to see others get better. Through that betterment you find pride. I hope that I have a place where they [athletes] say I’ve had an impact in their life as much as I say they’ve impacted mine.”

Brian Jahnke– “No matter how successful the athlete they contribute to the team and bring something special to the sport. It teaches me the value of each particular athlete no matter what their level is in the sport. It makes me a better person everyday.”
