Late night standoff

On April 27, 2018, officers were called to a residence due to a rifle being shot off. An individual male in his 30’s fired a shot during a conflict with another male. According to School Resource Officer Jeremiah Johnson, the suspect had drove to the intended target’s house to confront him about a failed purchase.The alleged shooter barricaded himself in his home near Madison Avenue and Alpha Street, about a block from the high school. Police were in a standoff through the night.

Due to the proximity of the circumstance, the North Platte High School soccer game was delayed. Both Scottsbluff and North Platte was moved into the school in a calm and orderly manner. According to freshman Yamilet Derma, the delay had only lasted approximately from 5.30 pm- 7:30 pm. The North Platte Police Department had advised everyone to stay indoors until the conflict was resolved.

NPPD removed the barricades around 2:00 am. The suspect has not been charged for the alleged crime, but is currently being held.
