Denim for dollars: NPHS teachers are raising money for our school and the community
A multitude of people adore jeans. For many, they’re comfortable, occasionally stylish, and almost always reliable. Jeans are perfect for practically every occasion. But this isn’t about the elastic denim you wear on your legs, this is about how a simple pair of pants can make a difference in and around our school.
On select Fridays, North Platte High School teachers pitch in some of their hard-earned dollars in exchange for wearing jeans. Originally started by English teacher Alice Boyer, the money raised from the jeans are placed in a fund and then donated to important projects and businesses around the community. For example, in past years the jean committee has donated to the food pantry and the Children’s Museum.
This particular year the funds are going towards junior Brook Chromy’s Boy Scout project, which aims to construct several benches at the school’s entrance. “When heavy rain comes, that area is flooded, so I want to do something to level it off,” said Chromy. He believes that the benches will be a positive enhancement to NPHS.
Although Boyer’s committee donated a large majority of the money, others contributed to this project as well. “Our intent is to recognize everybody who contributed,” said science teacher Dan Chromy, who is associated with the Boy Scout Troop. The benches are scheduled to be constructed by April 2l.
This project hopes to encompass the teachers, staff, and other important benefactors relating to NPHS.
