A s a neighboring state of Colorado, Nebraska is at large risk of being exposed to more drug related deaths because of the increasing number of marijuana dispensaries in Colorado. According to a 2017 study by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (RMHIDTA), there are more locations that sell marijuana than McDonald’s fast food restaurants in the Bronco state. The now legal drug has more than doubled the amount of marijuana related car accidents between the years of 2013 to 2016. Since marijuana became legal in Colorado in 2012, the state has experienced a 17% crime increase. The 120 page report mentions that marijuana related emergency hospitalizations rose 72% since its legalization. Marijuana usage is an increasingly significant issue affecting Colorado and surrounding states.
