Shaking things up with Shakespeare
All freshmen are required to read “Romeo and Juliet.” The class of 2021 got a different experience. They saw the play performed by the Nebraska Shakespeare Company live in the PAC on Oct 5.
“It was more lively than the movie. It was acted in person, which made me feel more connected to the characters,” said freshman Eddie Hatch. The Nebraska Shakespeare Company is a professional company out of Omaha. Every fall, they tour to area schools and perform an adapted version of a Shakespeare play.
Drama teacher Brittany McDaniel fought to bring the company to NPHS. “I believe in it so much,” said McDaniel. She even thought about paying for it with her own money, but eventually enough money was raised from local donations.
Freshman Nathan Morris said he enjoyed the play live because there was never a dull moment. “Everything kind of kept me on the edge of my seat. I was always paying attention, really intrigued,” he said.
