Disturbance Locks Down North Platte High
A physical education student caused a disturbance in the high school weight room Wednesday at 10: 30 a.m. forcing the school into a lockdown according to School Resource Officer Jay Johnson. “The school resource officer went to the classroom to assist the teacher,” said associate superintendent Tami Eshleman. “During this time, the school was placed in lockdown for the safety and wellness of the student body.” A lockdown is a specific safety precaution instructing teachers to lock all doors, turn off lights and move out of sight. Doors are kept shut until cleared by authorities. The lockdown lasted 45 minutes. Eshleman said during the lockdown, there was no imminent threat. “The student body and all students were safe and secure,” she said. Johnson said the faculty reacted very quickly. “I was very impressed with how the students and staff responded. We were locked down quickly.” No charges have been filed and the incident is under investigation said Johnson.
