“Do well at conference, obviously, take districts, then make it to state. That’s the overall goal for the whole team,” said coach Bernie Madison. “We’d love to take every kid to state, but realistically that may not happen because the youth. We have a pretty tough district, and there’s a lot of good wrestlers. So all we can do is buckle down for them all to make it,” he said.
So far the NPHS wrestling team has had 10 wins, out of 16 matches. Junior Diego Diaz said, “I’ve really been working on my technique and trying to improve on my strength. Right now, I’m in the weight class of 132. My goals are to be ranked in the state, so I can make it to districts. Then I want to have a good seed at state,” Diaz said. “But so far I would say we’ve had a pretty great season, all we can do is improve.” Freshman Isaiah Jackson said, “When I was little I just wanted to do any sport I could do, when wrestling was offered to me I accepted that offer. Since then I stuck with it because it really tests you, you get to see how strong you are. I’m in the 138 weight class. Every match, you get to see how much you’ve improved, and I like to see that in myself.”
