Nebraska musicians audition every year to be selected for the Nebraska Music Education Associations All-State choir, band, orchestra and jazz band. Despite school size, students are selected to perform together in their respective ensembles in November. A total of 746 students from 117 schools were chosen this year for all ensembles. “These kids should be proud of themselves,” NPHS director Leah Purdy said. “Something like 4,000 kids tried out last year. If students were in the top two singers in their voice range in their region, they had the option to try out for solos,” Purdy added. “All six of our singers were in those top-two places.”
