This is the first of a series introducing NPHS’ 18 new staff members.
Jennifer Barrett
Jennifer Barrett was born and raised in Houston, Texas, for 35 years. She then moved to Fort Worth for four years before moving to North Platte. Barrett had to move to North Platte due to her husband’s job with Union Pacific Railroad.
She used to work in education in Fort Worth and knew she wanted to continue to work in High School.
Barrett is the sub coordinator who ensures the teachers have someone to fill in for them when they are out for the day. Her goal is to one day be a principal secretary.
She has been in the education field for about eight years. She started in elementary working as an ISS paraprofessional in Houston. When her husband transferred to Fort Worth, she worked at a high school as the discipline secretary for four years.
She has three children: the oldest is 18 and starting college in Texas, the next is 14 and a freshman at NPHS, and the youngest is 12 at Adams Middle School.
Her hobbies include but are not limited to crafting, decorating, collecting gnomes, watching baseball and college football, hanging out with her family, and riding their sport utility vehicle whenever they are at their acreage in Texas.
Amie & Lucas Albrecht
Amie Albrecht was a school counselor at Willowbrook Leetonia for seven years. Three years prior, she was a counselor in Colorado.
She became a counselor because when she was in high school, she went through a difficult time. Her counselor helped her through that. Albrecht thought her guidance was neat and wanted to do that for others.
Amie moved to North Platte because her family and her family were excited about the move. Her parents still live in Colorado, so they wanted to get closer to them. This year is Amie’s eleventh year of being a counselor.
Amie is married to Lucas Albrecht. They have three kids, ages five, 18 months, and three.
Lucas Albrecht teaches strength and conditioning. He started teaching strength and conditioning because he felt it would fit his personality and interests.
“I felt most comfortable going through college when I was picking what I wanted to teach and make a career out of,” Lucas said.
