North Platte High School teacher Nathaniel Foster is one of the advisors for the school’s SkillsUSA program.
Foster saw other schools doing car shows and he thought it would be a good fundraiser for his students. He also thought North Platte is a good community and would support something like this.
Last year advisors, Elizabeth Odle and Jeff Henne said that craft shows usually do really well in North Platte, as well.
After he was done visiting with them, he decided to put both together.
He brought the idea to his students. They picked up on the idea and really liked it. They all voted and decided it was a good idea.
The Car ‘N’ Craft Show was Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event was a fundraiser for the conferences that they attend. Students had the opportunity to make connections with people in the community.
“We made about $1,500 in profit,” Foster said.
The purpose of this event was so the kids could raise money while also letting them interact with their community.
Another purpose for it was that people could bring and show what they are proud of to other people.
Foster had his students build the first place trophies, because it gets them more involved in the process of setting up the event and running it.
Because having the students put in some work and showing the community, this is what they can do and these are the skills that they have.
It shows the community that this is what the kids are passionate and care about.
The people that won knew that it was from the students, taking time to design and build, not just something off of Etsy or Amazon.
